Technical Training

VE.ECD Diesel Injection

Course Content - 3 days
With the growing integration of diesel injection systems and electronic control, this course provides the theoretical information and practical procedures required, for technicians working on Bosch VE and VE/EDC diesel injection systems as used by leading vehicle manufacturers. The delegate will gain valuable in-depth knowledge of the mechanical and electronic fault diagnosis of these systems, including the display of sensor signals using the latest Bosch test equipment. Analysis of these displays and results is a key part of learning a diagnostic approach to vehicle symptoms and system faults.

Modules and subject areas
The course is divided into linked modules and subject areas, which allow the essential underpinning theory and practical skills knowledge to be delivered effectively. The modules and subject areas cover the following topics:

Introduction to VE and VE/EDC systems
Typical fuel circuit components
Typical electrical circuit components
Typical circuit wiring diagram
Systemn operation sensors & actuators
Pump operation sensors & actuators
System fault diagnosis
Attainment
On successful completion of VSD 12 delegates will be able to:

Carry out fault diagnosis test procedures on typical VE/EDC systems and complete the appropriate component tests to determine serviceability.
Identify components requiring replacement or repair where appropriate.
Perform a complete system diagnosis test to ensure functional serviceability of sensors, actuators and the circuit wiring.
Prerequisites and Recommended Reading
Completion of courses VSE 1, VSG 2 and VSG 5 is a prerequisite to attending VSD 12 and delegates should be familiar with typical multi-scope tester operation. Prior attendance on VSTD 9 “Diagnosis using the Oscilloscope” is strongly recommended as well as the appropriate equipment user’s courses.

Recommended literature for prior reading is the Bosch publications:
Diesel Engine Management: An Overview (Part No. 1987722138)
Distributor Type Diesel Fuel Injection Pumps (Part No. 1987722144)

Assessment and Certification
The tests and practical tasks will be carried out using Bosch test equipment, service information, training notes and course material.

Delegates will be expected to complete a course examination.

A certificate of competence will be issued to those achieving a pass mark of 70% or over.

To obtain full Diagnostic Technician status the delegate is required to complete the Diagnostic Technician, one day practical and theory test.
Upon successful completion, the delegate will be awarded with Bosch Diagnostic Technician status and certificate, awarded by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).

Accreditation
All Bosch Diagnostic Technician programme courses are co-certified by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) QAA scheme
