Gasoline Engine Management: Ignition Systems
Course Content - 2 days
Modules and subject areas
Ignition - primary and secondary system principles Carry out testing to determine serviceability of ignition systems and components.
Recommended literature for prior reading is the Bosch publication:
Assessment and Certification
Delegates will be expected to complete a course examination. A certificate of competence will be issued to those achieving a pass mark of 70% or over. To obtain full Diagnostic Technician status the delegate is required to complete the Diagnostic Technician, one day practical and theory test. Upon successful completion, the delegate will be awarded with Bosch Diagnostic Technician status and certificate, awarded by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).
Accreditation
Designed for technicians involved with diagnosis and analysis of electronic ignition systems, this course gives comprehensive knowledge about the operation of typical modern electronic ignition systems. This course delivers the essential skills that technicians can apply to ignition related problems and will enable them to progress efficiently through the service steps of test, diagnosis and repair.
The course is divided into linked modules and subject areas, which allow the essential underpinning theory and practical skills knowledge to be delivered effectively. The modules and subject areas cover the following topics:
Test equipment - primary and secondary connection
Ignition waveforms review and interpretation
Inductive and hall type systems and testing
Electronic mapped ignition, knock control and testing
Distributor-less ignition and test procedures
Attainment
On successful completion of VSG 2 delegates will be able to:
Accurately diagnose system faults and the corrective action for system repair.
Interpret typical ignition oscilloscope displays of ignition primary and secondary circuit performance as an aid to system diagnosis.
Prerequisites and Recommended Reading
Successful completion of course VSE 1 Essential Test Procedures is a prerequisite to attending VSG 2 and delegates should be familiar with the use of a typical multi-scope tester for ignition analysis. Prior attendance on VSTD 9 Diagnosis using the Oscilloscope is strongly recommended as well as the appropriate equipment users courses.
Ignition Systems for Gasoline Engines (Part No. 1987722130)
Gasoline Engine Management Basics & Components (Part No. 1987722136)
The tests and practical tasks will be carried out using Bosch test equipment, service information, training notes and course material.
All Bosch Diagnostic Technician programme courses are co-certified by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) QAA scheme
